Nights, Sundays and public holidays

Duty pharmacy in France (pharmacie de garde)

At night, on Sundays and on public holidays, an on-duty pharmacy dispenses medicine in every sector of France.

Rosters rotate weekly and are organised per department — there is no real-time national public list. Here is the official way to find tonight's duty pharmacy, plus the pharmacies open 24/7, department by department.

How to find the duty pharmacy

  1. 1

    Call 3237

The 3237 hotline (€0.35/min, 24/7, French-speaking — have the town name ready) gives you the nearest on-duty pharmacy. Every pharmacy also posts the current duty rota on its window.

  2. 2

Deep night: go through the police if asked

Between midnight and 6 AM, duty pharmacies in many departments work behind closed shutters: call 3237 first, or the local police station / gendarmerie (17 in an emergency), who will direct you and notify the pharmacist.

  3. 3

    Bring your prescription and insurance

For French residents the duty fee is largely covered with a prescription and Carte Vitale. Visitors should pay, keep the receipt and claim from their travel or home insurer (EHIC/GHIC where applicable).
